Regione Lombardia and Sustainable Water Management
Sustainable water resources management has been a major priority for Regione Lombardia since the entry into force of the Water Framework Directive in 2000. Innovation is the key to meet the current and future challenges of the water sector. Driving innovation through a collaboration with the supply chain will make the water sector more sustainable.
Lombardy regional government is convinced that research and innovation can be catalyst for innovative and entrepreneurial ways of managing water resources. One of the objectives is to introduce new technologies and demonstration projects on urban and industrial waste water management, in particular water reuse.
Martini Gianlorenzo, Director of Regione Lombardia contributed an interesting article to our February's newsletter. Don't miss out on the chance to read the whole by having a look here.
WssTP, a key player to EU Water Research and Innovation
With 2012 drawing to an end, it is time to reflect on the achievements of the current year and take a glimpse of what is likely to happen next year.
One of 2012 special highlights was our yearly stakeholder event “Water Innovation Europe 2012” with the participation of Commissioner Potoċnik. Over the course of 2012, WssTP has been very actively engaged in supporting the European Commission (EC) to set up the European Innovation Partnership on Water (EIP Water). Beyond the EIP Water, WssTP consolidated its relationship with the different Directorate Generals (DG) of the EC, such as DG ENV, DG RTD, DG Regio and DG Connect.

WssTP Members Demonstration Sites Event

We would like to thank all of those who attended our Demonstration Sites Follow Up workshop on the 25th October. We had a great turn out, and would like to thank all for their constructive ideas and productive discussions.
During the WssTP Member's workshop on Demonstration Sites held on the 23rd April, those present defined some key thematic areas and laid the groundwork for WssTP to a) input into the Strategic Implementation Plan of the EIP on Water and b) help members to build proposals for the Call – Reference ENV.2013.WATER INNO&DEMO-1 Water innovation demonstration projects. Our follow-up event on the 25th October brought our members together to further progress these ideas and discussions, and build consortia with one another.
