What is WssTP? 

 

WssTP, a common vision for European Water Innovation

 

WssTP is the Water supply and sanitation Technology Platform. It was initiated by the European Commission in 2004 to promote coordination and collaboration of Research and Technology Development in the water industry. Through our Strategic Research Agenda we provide strategic answers for the water research future challenges. We have 70 members and 210 contributors from Industries, Academics, Research, Policy Makers and Water Utilities 

WssTP is led by industries in collaboration with academics, research organisations and water users to improve efficiency and financial opportunities in the sector. WssTP is recognized by the European Commission and National governments as the reference in Research & Technology water sector. WssTP works with National Representatives through the Mirror State Members Groups including government representatives from 27 European countries. WssTP has a strong network of Members and contributors involved in its activities including the delivering of research strategic vision and the production of evidenced based reports identifying future research needs. From Fundamental Research to implementation, WssTP is proactive in identifying future challenges.

 


Our Organisation Structure

 

 WssTP is an AISBL under Belgian Law supporting its activities through membership fees. Its organisation includes:

  • General Assembly,

  • a Board of Directors, to access the latest news from the board, click here

  • the water and sanitation sector 

  • and 3 Committees, the Pilot Coordination Commitee (PCC) and the Member States Mirror Group (MSMG).

 

 
 

 

Our Vision

 

By 2030, the European water sector will be a leading centre of expertise for providing safe, clean, affordable and sustainable water and sanitation.

We will have made significant and measurable contributions to the Millennium Development Goals.

WssTP will  meet global challenges and regional demands to ensure water and sanitation services.

 

A long-term vision document has been created, that includes:

  • Integrated management of water ressources and water infrastructure

  • Balanced water uses preserving aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem.

  • Uses of alternative ressources, recovery and re-use of water.

  • Reduced detrimental health effect of water-based emissions.

  • Water quality monitoring.

  • Risk management in the water-cycle.

Vision Document and a Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) has been produced, addressing the numerous visionary targets.

WssTP aims to develop an effective collaboration between the different communities working in the water sector: industrialists, Research Groups, Policy Makers, Financiers, Water Consumers.

Each community is involved in raising awareness on water issues, defining the main drivers for R&D at a European level, contributing to the water Millenium Development goals.

This initiative involves all stakeholders who are engaged in European water supply and sanitation and major end-user groups.

The mission and related goals of WssTP are to strengthen the competitiveness and the potential for:

1. Technological leadership by the European Water Industry.

2. Solving European water issues.

3. Addressing the challenges of an integrated and sustainable management of water resources.
